What did you learn with this action?: | PFC Fred M Palmer, 23, son of Mr & Mrs Bruce Palmer, 138 Washington Ave, Gardiner, died of wounds received in action in Italy March 5, 1945. Palmer never married. PFC Palmer left Gardiner with the National Guard in February 1941 and received training at Camp Blanding, FL, and Louisiana. He transferred to the 87th Mountain Infantry Ski troops, trained at Camp Hal, CO, and participated in the invasion of Kiska, Aleutians. He spent a furlough at home in December 1944 and left for overseas shortly after. Born in Gardinar, ME May 20, 1921, he was the son of Bruce & Mary (Cressey) Palmer. Surviving besides his mother are two brother, Corp Bruce Palmer, somewhere in England and Alden Palmer, in the US Navy; four sisters, Mrs Irene Calwell, Mrs Lillian Bickford, Bowdoinham, ME; Dorothy and Blanche Palmer of Gardiner, ME. |
