What did you learn with this action?: | The name that he signed his letter with was "Johnny". He wrote about meals, the italian words he was learning, the plite of the italians, the men in his division (86th infantry of the 10th mountain division) He is at the Florence, Italy cemetary plot G, Row A, Grave 5. He wrote home asking for "wool sock" and many other. His letters were sent to the states with the Victory Mail (V-mail) system He wrote friends, sister Ann, Parents and Grandparents |
What inspired you about this individual to do something in your life to make a difference?: | I have been a part of the making of this project. I think it is so important that we get away from the idea of numbers and that we focus on individuals. I have been for years taking my students to the WWII cemetary outside of Florence for this reason. My prayer is that we not forget the sacrifices young women and men made and make for us. If a family member reads this, THANK YOU. |
