What did you learn with this action?:I learned that Paul Carr joined the army in California and became a Second Lieutenant. He entered the army in Redding, California on March 31, 1941 and served 18 months in Hawaii before going to Fort Benning, Ga. Carr was married to Jean Clarke on May 26, 1944, less than a year before his death in April, 1945. Jean remarried and lived to the age of 93. Carr is buried in the Florence American Cemetery. Carr was 29 years old when he died.
What inspired you about this individual to do something in your life to make a difference?:I was very inspired for many reasons after reading about Paul Carr. Seeing that he was a recipient of a Purple Heart and was killed, I knew that he must have died in battle. This is very inspirational to me because this action shows that some people are willing to sacrifice their own lives to protect others. He was also brave because he left his new wife to go fight in the war. Seeing others do heroic things such as this makes me want to give back. Even though I've never been in the military, I would like to find a way to give back to either people who have served in the military or the larger population in general.
